Fleet truck hit my parked car while I was at work — their company is ghosting me now
So this happened about a week and a half ago and I'm honestly just confused about how any of this is supposed to work.
I came out of my office building after a meeting to find a note on my windshield and a pretty noticeable dent with scrape damage along my rear quarter panel. The note was from a driver saying he worked for some kind of delivery/logistics contractor and included his company's phone number. There was also a witness who stuck around and gave me their contact info — which I'm really grateful for.
I called the number on the note that same evening. The person I spoke to was polite and said a claims manager would follow up within a couple of business days. That was over a week ago. I've called three more times since then, left voicemails, and sent an email. Crickets.
Now I'm starting to wonder:
- Should I just file through my own insurance instead? Will that hurt me somehow?
- Does the fact that I waited this long to push harder hurt my claim? I have photos from the scene, the note, the police report number I filed that same night, and the witness info.
- Is it worth contacting a lawyer at this point or is that overkill for property damage?
The damage isn't catastrophic but it's definitely not minor either — it'll need a body shop for sure. I just feel like I'm getting the runaround and I don't know if that's normal or if they're hoping I'll give up.
Any advice from people who've dealt with commercial vehicle claims would be seriously appreciated. I don't want to make a mistake that costs me.
