Hit-and-run driver rolled my car and just drove off. I can't stop replaying it.
I don't even know why I'm posting this. I think I just need to get it out somewhere.
This afternoon I was on my way to pick up my little sister from her after-school thing — totally normal Tuesday — when a truck came flying out of a side street and clipped my rear bumper going way too fast. It sent me spinning across two lanes and I ended up rolling into a ditch off the shoulder. I remember the sound most. That grinding, crunching sound. And the smell — like hot metal and burnt rubber all at once.
I managed to crawl out through the passenger door because mine was caved in. My phone had skidded halfway across the grass. The truck? Gone. Nobody stopped except one older guy who called 911 and stayed with me until the ambulance came, bless him.
Physically I got off "lucky" — deep bruising across my ribs and shoulder, a pretty gnarly scrape down my forearm. No broken bones. ER cleared me and sent me home. But it's been a few hours and I cannot stop seeing the horizon just... tilting. I keep hearing the podcast that was playing when it happened. I turned it on tonight by accident and had to immediately shut it off.
I know I should be grateful and I genuinely am. But I also feel weirdly shaky and kind of hollow? Like I can't explain it.
Has anyone else felt like this after? Does it go away? And is there anything I should even be doing right now — legally, medically, whatever? I filed a police report at the scene but I don't really know what comes next when the other driver just vanished.
