tracked down a witness from my crash and honestly didn't expect what happened next

okay so this is kind of random but I just need to share it somewhere because it made my whole week.

I've been dealing with the aftermath of my accident for a few months now — physical therapy, back and forth with the insurance company, the whole exhausting mess. I wasn't sleeping great and ended up down a rabbit hole of accident-related content online at like 1am (you know how the algorithm finds you).

Anyway it got me thinking about the guy who pulled over and stayed with me until the ambulance came. I was pretty out of it that day but I remembered his face. His name was on the police report as a witness and honestly on a whim I just... looked him up. Found a profile that seemed to match, sent a short message explaining who I was and figured I'd never hear back.

He replied within an hour.

He said he'd thought about me so many times and genuinely didn't know if I'd made it out okay. He was SO relieved to hear from me. We ended up messaging back and forth for like 45 minutes. He told me what he saw from his angle (which was actually really detailed and useful), and I just thanked him for staying with me because honestly I don't know how I would have felt being alone in that moment.

I'm not really sure why I'm posting this — I think because everything about dealing with an accident feels so cold and transactional after a while. Insurance adjusters, medical bills, legal stuff. It's easy to forget there were real human moments in it too.

Has anyone else reconnected with a witness or bystander from their accident? And side question — does documented witness testimony actually matter later on if things go further with a claim?
